Ray E. Vomacka, son of Ernest and Alice (Hageman) Vomacka, was born September 2, 1961 in Burke, South Dakota. He grew up and received his education in Gregory, South Dakota and graduated from Gregory High School in 1980. While growing up and as a young man Ray learned the machinist trade from his father who owned Ernies Machine Shop in Gregory. He learned machinist skills that included turning lathe, milling machine and all types of gas welding. He was able to calculate dimensions and tolerances as well as dismantle equipment for any needed repairs. He was able to read technical plans, blueprints and drawings and had 25 years of experience in repairing, fabricating, design and machining. His work history included working with his father, the Alamo Group SMC Inc. in Sioux Falls, Millwright Welding, Superior Homes and Sodak Construction in Watertown. Ray also worked for Drumgoon Dairy near Lake Norden until ill health forced his retirement in January of 2014. Ray died on Monday, March 16, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Lake Norden at the age of 53 years. He was united in marriage to Raeann Stukel in Gregory on June 16, 1984. He was a past member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gregory and enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycle and muscle cars. He was a fan of the Denver Broncos, the Lake Norden Lakers and the Gregory Gorillas. Grateful for having shared his life are three daughters, Elissa (Gabe) MacMurchy of Belle Fourche, SD, Courtney Vomacka of Sioux Falls, Laura Vomacka of Hamill, SD; one son Robert Vomacka of Gregory; five grandchildren, Morgan, Isaiah, Amelia, Samuel and Weston; his mother Alice (Art) Brevik of Loves Park, IL; one sister Nola Osborne of Lake Norden; one brother Norman Vomacka of Whitman, NE; nieces and nephews, Kenny (Nicole) Hickey, Rhiannon (Bryan) Cordell, Skylur (Tracy) Vomacka and Chance Vomacka; Nola's step-children, Andrea (Cory) Binger, Mandy (Corey) Audiss and Shawn (Val) Osborne. He was preceded in death by his father Ernest and brother-in-law Mike Osborne. There will be a memorial visitation from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM followed by a Scripture Service on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Geise Funeral Chapel in Lake Norden.
