Obituary

Reid Nolte, a lifelong farmer and a true "animal whisperer," passed away on September 10, 2024, at the age of 73. He was born on November 24, 1950 to Carl and Minnie (Marks) Nolte, Reid grew up near Wecota, South Dakota, where he learned the values of hard work, community, and family while tending to the land and raising cattle.

He attended school in the Cresbard District and graduated from Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, SD. In 1988, Reid and his family moved to the Castlewood area, where he continued working in the agricultural field and later became an area representative for Books Are Fun.

Reid is survived by his loving wife, Kari Nolte; his daughter Tara Nolte; his son Richard Nolte, along with Richard's wife Lauren and their daughter Hazel (who was the apple of her grandpa's eye), sister Fern Braun, and brother Raye (Lynda) Nolte along with several nieces and nephews.

Known for always leaving you with a hearty laugh, Reid's wit and humor were as constant as the sunrise. He never missed the chance to crack a good joke.  Now, his final harvest is complete, and he's moved on to greener pastures.

In honor of Reid's life, let's keep his spirit alive by sharing stories, laughter, and perhaps a joke or two.  A celebration of Reid's life will be held on Saturday, September 21, at the Castlewood Community Center from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. All are encouraged to bring their best (or worst!) Dad jokes in his honor.

Rest in peace, Reid. Your work here is done, but your legacy will keep growing.
