Richard Bud Bohls, son of John and Mary (Tauer) Bohls, was born June 16, 1923, at rural Castlewood, South Dakota. He grew up in the Castlewood area and graduated from Castlewood High School. On March 17, 1945, he married Delores Petershagen at Estelline, South Dakota. They farmed in the Castlewood area and retired from farming in 1978. He then began working with his son Jim at the lumberyard and continued working and enjoyed being there for 29 years. He died on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 3 days.
Bud was a life member of the Elks Club in Watertown and a member of St. Johns Catholic Church. He and Delores celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary on Tuesday, March 17th. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and slot machines. He especially enjoyed shaking dice on Saturday mornings with the garbage crew.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Delores of Castlewood; one daughter, Diane Victor of Watertown and her special friend, Dave Sogge; three sons, Jim Bohls and his wife Mary of Castlewood, Don Bohls and his wife Marlene of Watertown, Ron Bohls of Watertown; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; one sister, Laura Kemink of Pierre, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Charlene; a granddaughter, Lyndsey; his parents; four brothers, Edward, Albert, Eugene and Martin; and one sister, Hilda.
