Robert Joe 'Bob' Hutt, 78, of Estelline, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Estelline Nursing and Care Center. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the United Church of Christ in Estelline, SD. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday at the church. Geise Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Robert Joe 'Bob' Hutt was born to Joe R. and Gentina (Mulder) Hutt on January 30, 1940, in Estelline, SD. He attended country school through the 8th grade at Spilde School and graduated from Estelline High School in 1958. He was active in 4-H and Legion baseball. After high school he worked for Merle Peterson, hauling gravel. On July 3, 1963, Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army. During his time in the service, he was stationed at Camp Darby in Veronia, Italy until his honorable discharge on July 10, 1965. Upon his discharge, he began his career with the Hamlin County Highway Department. He continued to work there for 42 years until his retirement in September 2007. Bob also farmed until 1996, when he moved into Estelline.
He was a member of the UCC and the Estelline American Legion. Bob loved going to farm auctions and he would make his annual trip every May to Orange City, IA for the Tulip Festival. He enjoyed tractor shows and threshing bees, road trips, and Sunday morning breakfast with Keith. He was a collector of Farm-All tractors, caps and any Farm-All memorabilia. He could often be found tinkering on his five Farm-All tractors.
Grateful for having shared his life is his companion, Darlene Pedersen, of Estelline, and her children, Duane (Rhonda) Pedersen, of Platte, SD, Bryan (Sandra) Pedersen, of Hayti, SD and Jerald Pedersen, of Estelline; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Foster, of Estelline, SD; two nieces, Lynn (John) Schneider, of Holyoke, CO and Carla (Tom) Clarke, of Estelline; two nephews, Greg (Denise) Patton, of Sioux Falls, SD and Todd (Jolynn) Foster, of Brookings, SD and many cousins, great nieces, great nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe R. and Gentina Hutt; sister, Martha Jane (Phil) Patton; brother-in-law, Ron Foster and nephew, Jeffrey Foster.
