Obituary

Royal Shorty Jorgenson Lake Norden, South Dakota Visitation will be held 4PM to 7PM Thursday at Geise Funeral Chapel in Lake Norden with a time of family sharing at 7:00 PM Masonic Graveside Rites 10:30 AM, Friday, September 8, 2006 West Norden Lutheran Cemetery Rural Hayti, South Dakota Royal M. Jorgenson, known as Shorty to his friends and family, was born March 30, 1913, the son of J.T. and Annie (Johnson) Jorgenson, near Hayti, South Dakota. He graduated in 1931 from Hayti High School and then worked the family homestead with his father near Hayti. After his marriage to Marie Ione Marston on October 13th, 1940 at Howard, South Dakota, they farmed on the homestead place until moving to a farm in the Lake Norden area. Shorty retired from farming in 1987 and moved into Lake Norden in 1998. He died on Monday, September 4, 2006 at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 4 days. Over the years he was active in Masons and served on the East Norden Church Board and the local township board. He loved to read, particularly ancient history. He was a self-educated, well read man. He had a wonderful memory of people, events and dates and he used that talent to tell wonderful stories. He loved his family, and was a great fan of the Hayti Redbirds, USC and the St. Louis Cardinals. Grateful for having shared his life are six children, Jackie Meeder and her husband Gary of Brookins, Penny Woster and her husband Jim, David Jorgenson and his wife Sandy, all of Sioux Falls, Roxy Sorknes and her husband Harold of Watertown, Cathy Prouty of Lake Norden, Dan Jorgenson and his wife Janelle of Greensboro, NC; 13 grandchildren; one step grandchild; seven great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marie on October 19, 1997; his parents; five brothers and two sisters. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials directed to the Lake Norden Amubulance Fund.
