October 12, 1921 – June 29, 2019
Ruby A. Anderson was born on October 21, 1921 in Lake Norden, SD, the daughter of Walter and Agnes (Johnson) Anderson. She attended school through the 10 th grade in Hayti, SD. Ruby met Fay Brist at a local roller-skating rink. The two were on their own separate dates, when their dates, decided they liked each other, and left together. Fay wound up giving Ruby a ride home that night. They were married June 6, 1942 in Watertown, SD. They lived in Lake Norden, where they raised children. They moved to Brookings, SD, in 1947, where Ruby worked at the hospital in whatever department needed help. They added three more children to the family in Brookings. The family moved to Young America, MN in 1961. Ruby worked as a cook at Hillcrest Café and later at Rockford's Truck Stop. She then took a job at Anchor Glass. They moved to Cologne, MN in 1963. Fay felt they needed to have one more girl, and in 1964, had another child. She began working at Tonka Toys on April 1, 1963 where she worked for 22 years. She then took a job at United Mailing where she worked for 19 years, retiring at the age of 84.
Ruby loved to do crossword and fill in the blank puzzles. She enjoyed watching game shows and never missed Wheel-of-Fortune.
She is survived by her children, Judith Linquist, of Mayer, MN, Dennis Brist, of Worden, MT; Vicky Thaemert, of Marshall, MN, Randall Brist, of Shawmut, MT, Bradley (Soo) Brist, of Moore, OK, and Tammy (Steve) Dann, of Chaska, MN; daughter-in-law, Sue Brist, of Huntington, TX; 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, with angel Logan arriving in October; four great-great grandchildren; sister Nadene Hanson, of Mason City, IA; three cousins and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fay; son, Larry; two sons-in-law, Burt Linquist and Howard Thaemert; daughter-in-law, Janet Brist and three brothers, Virgil Andersen, Glenn Anderson and Eldon Anderson.
