Russ Saathoff, 71, passed away at his home on August 25, 2026. He was born on January 17, 1955, to Ed and Evelyn Saathoff and graduated from high school in 1973.
Russ worked various construction jobs throughout his life, as well as at Pam Oil, Davisco and Nitteberg Construction. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family.
On April 30, 1983, Russ married the love of his life, Mary Haider. Together they raised four children: Jason, Kristi, Jennifer and Bryan. His family was the center of his life, and he cherished the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends.
Russ had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and trapping pocket gophers. Although he would have much rather been out hunting, Russ was an amazing pitcher. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, going for a drive, and meeting his friends for coffee. He was happiest when he was spending time with the people he cared about.
Russ will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary; his children, Kristi and Dave Owens and their children, Riley and Kenzie; Jason and Amanda Saathoff and their children, Karsten, Kori, Paxten and Kaisa; Jennifer and Joel Zweep and their children, Jordyn, Avery, Kinley, Landon and Logan; and Bryan and Andi Saathoff and their children, Reid, Beau and Braylee. He is also survived by his siblings , Dale Saathoff, Larry Saathoff, Connie Saathoff and Julie Johnston.
Russ will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His humor, hardworking spirit, love of the outdoors, and especially his love for his family and friends will remain in their hearts and memories forever.
A Visitation will be held starting at 9:00 am on Friday, August 28, 2026, until the Funeral Service starting at 10:30 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Estelline, SD. Interment will immediately follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Estelline, SD.
