Ruth Lorraine (Lentz) Engbretson, daughter of Charles and Anna (Redlin) Lentz, was born March 20, 1923 in Codington County, South Dakota. She received her education in rural school in Codington County and was united in marriage to Clifford Martell and was later divorced. Ruth was united in marriage to Gynther Engbretson on December 14, 1967 in Ipswich, South Dakota. Gynther died in 1977. She was employed in various places during her life, including the South Shore Creamery, Tucks Caf and The Maple Leaf in Watertown, the Dakota Inn and SDSU as a custodian in Brookings. After moving to Estelline, Ruth worked at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center and the Red Carpet. She entered the Estelline Nursing and Care Center on May 21, 1998 and died there on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 19 days.
She was a member of Mt. Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Estelline. She enjoyed cooking, writing and spending time with friends.
Grateful for having shared her life are one daughter, Ruth Ann Boreman of Green Bay, WI; one son, Gary Martell of Watertown, SD; one grandchild; a step-daughter, Bonnie Sheridan of Huron, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Gynther; her parents; one daughter Ruby Ann; one son Roger; four brothers, Harry, Howard, Carl and Charles; one sister Phyllis Jensen; and one son-in-law Edward Boreman.
