Shawn R. Zwack, 66, of Estelline, SD, passed away on June 15, 2023, at Avantara Care Center, Lake Norden, SD after more than a year-long battle with ALS. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline. In honor of Shawn's love of sports, please wear your favorite sports apparel to the memorial service.

Shawn R. Zwack was born in Mitchell, SD on May 20, 1957, to Richard and Charmaine Zwack.  He was the 3rd of 4 sons. Shawn lived in several places while growing up and completed his education in 1975 in Brookings, SD. He then went on to join the Army and served for 3 years as an artillery surveyor.

On February 14, 1981, Shawn was united in marriage to Cindi Berg.  Cindi brought two young daughters into the marriage, whom he loved as his own.  He embraced being a dad by being a big kid himself.  As a family, they enjoyed going to the lake, camping, and going to the outdoor drive-in theater.  One of his greatest joys was teaching the girls to swim, fish, and enjoy nature as much as he did.  He also had a great love of bird watching.  He would often send random pictures of birds to the girls which, at the time, seemed strange, but now it will always serve as a fond reminder of someone they loved.

Shawn loved all sports, especially watching his favorite Minnesota teams, and was thrilled to watch his hometown Jackrabbits win a national championship last year.  He also loved hearing about his granddaughter's sporting events and enjoyed attending games as he was able.

Shawn also had quite the sweet tooth.  Some of his favorites included Snickers, Kit Kat, Reece's cup, and his renewed love of his childhood favorite, Crows.  (For anyone that hasn't tried them, don't recommend!)

He inherited his love of gardening from his dad and continued that passion, along with minimal assistance from his wife.  Along with gardening together, Shawn & Cindi enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and taking long drives through the countryside.  One of their favorite places to visit was the Black Hills.

Shawn is survived by his wife, Cindi, Estelline; children, Michelle (Curt) Mathias, Fargo, ND and Shawn (Jim) Lund, Detroit Lakes, MN; grandchildren, Jordan McLaren, Karlie Mathias, Reaghen Mathias; brothers, Jay (Jackie) Zwack, Kevin (Gwen) Zwack, and several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard & Charmaine Zwack, and brother, Scott Zwack.
