Shirley Emeline (Searles) Hansen, daughter of Harry and Julia (Johnson) Searles, was born January 8, 1926 on the Johnson Homestead near Lake Norden, South Dakota. She grew up and attended high school in Sioux Falls. She was united in marriage to Charles R. Hansen on May 22, 1965 in Sioux Falls. After their marriage they farmed near Hayti, South Dakota until retiring and moving into Lake Norden. Charles died on January 21, 2006 and Shirley continued to live in Lake Norden until moving to Sioux Falls in 2008. She entered Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls in 2009 and died there on Friday, August 15, 2014 at the age of 88 years. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Lake Norden. Shirley enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking and baking. She especially enjoyed giving to others and taking care of other people. Grateful for having shared her life are one son Daniel Malloy and his wife Jan of Canton, CT; two daughters, Collen Ohman of Fairbanks, AK, Patty Bladek and her husband Mike of Midway, AR; two grandchildren, Sean Malloy and Ty Bladek; one great grandson Quinton Ohman; one brother Edward Searles and his wife Judy of Hartford, SD; one sister Pam Bentley and her husband Bob of Lake Norden; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her parents, two grandchildren, Charles and Ginger Ohman, a son-in-law Bill Ohman, and two sisters, Virginia Husman and Eunice Wilka. There will be a public visitation from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Geise Funeral Chapel in Lake Norden. Burial will follow at the Olivet Cemetery at Lake Norden.
