Stephena (Bruinsma) Kalsbeck, daughter of Dirk and Ida (Franken) Bruinsma, was born February 1, 1925 at Sioux Center, Iowa. She received her education in rural school District #5 in Deuel County, South Dakota and continued her education at Estelline High School. Stephena was united in marriage to S. Arnold Kalsbeck on February 25, 1945 in Estelline. Following their marriage they farmed in Hamlin and Deuel Counties. Their four children, Gerald, Steve, Roger and Dawn remember never being bored even though there were no computers or cell phones. Stephena filled her days with gardening, processing broilers, gathering and cleaning eggs, milking, making butter, baking, watching "As The World Turns", sewing and of course she was a great cook. After their retirement she and Arnold spent 15 winters in Florida. She was known as the shuttle board champ at the winter park. Stephena enjoyed travel and had a large spoon collection from those trips. She died on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center at the age of 90 years. She was a member of the Hamlin Reformed Church and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading and spending time with family and friends. Grateful for having shared her life are three sons, Gerald and his wife Loretta of Estelline, Steve and his wife Deb of Brookings, Roger and his wife Cindy of Bruce, SD; one daughter Dawn Perez and her husband Henry of Racine, WI; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two sisters, Iva Jensen of Hendricks, MN , Eleanor Wiesner of Sioux Falls; one brother Robert Bruinsma and his wife RoyLynn of Castlewood; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Arnold on February 25, 2006, one grandson Benjamin and her parents. Her funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Hamlin Reformed Church. Visitation will be from 6PM to 8PM Tuesday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery at Estelline.
