Wilhelmina Sylvia (Kalsbeck) Archer, daughter of Garrit and Kathryn (Katze) Kalsbeck, was born June 19, 1930, in Hamlin County, South Dakota. She received her education in rural school district # 6 and graduated from Estelline High School in 1948. Sylvia was united in marriage to Russell Archer on March 3, 1949, in Estelline. After their marriage they lived in Washington for five years and then moved back to Hamlin County where they farmed for 10 years. In 1967 they moved to White Salmon, Washington where they lived until returning to Estelline in 1972. From 1972 to 1983 she was employed as a cook and waitress at Harolds Caf in Estelline. She then worked at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center as a dietary aid for over 20 years. She died on Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 20 days.
Sylvia was a member of the United Church of Christ and the American Legion Auxiliary in Estelline. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening and camping.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Russell of Estelline; one daughter, Kathleen Archer of Ramona, SD; one son, Gregory Archer and his wife LeeAnne of Castlewood; three grandchildren, Eric DeKam and Katie and Lyndsey Archer; one brother, Marvin Kalsbeck and his wife Janet of Big Stone City, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by one son, Randy, her parents, and two brothers, Milo and Arnold Kalsbeck.
