Thelma S. (Sweeney) Peterson, daughter of Squire Albert and Myrtle (Walters) Sweeney, was born October 9, 1913 at Lockwood, Missouri. When she was one year old she moved with her family to Alta, Iowa where she grew up. Thelma was united in marriage to Harold Peterson on February 8, 1932 in Alta, Iowa. They farmed near Storm Lake and Aurelia, Iowa as well as Claremont, Minnesota. After retirement they moved to Arkansas and later lived in Oklahoma. Harold died on December 21, 2002 and Thelma then moved to Watertown to be near her daughter. She died on Monday, October 17, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Watertown at the age of 98 years. She enjoyed reading and sewing and over the years she and Harold enjoyed traveling. Grateful for having shared her life are one daughter Ileta "Dolly" Gasner and her husband Terrance of Castlewood, SD; one son Galen Peterson and his wife Joyce of Hiwassie, AR; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and one sister Ruth Small of Sioux Rapids, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold; her parents; one son Myron "Mike" Peterson; one granddaughter Virginia Gasner on January 25, 1970; two sisters, Alberta Moss and Ellamae Straight; and three brothers, Lee, George and Ralph Sweeney. Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the American Lutheran Church in Castlewood.
