Verner O. Koistinen Lake Norden, South Dakota Funeral Service 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 12, 2005 Lake Norden Baptist Church Pastor Warren Vendt, Officiating Interment Lake Norden Baptist Cemetery Visitation 2PM to 5PM Sunday at Geise Funeral Chapel in Lake Norden. Verner O. Koistinen, son of Charles and Ida (Tervo) Koistinen, was born June 27, 1914 in Hamlin County, South Dakota. He received his education in rural school in Hamlin County and was a graduate of Bryant High School in 1932. After his education he was employed as a carpenter for several years and was later employed on a highway crew. After his marriage to Helen Olson on April 12, 1940 they moved to Vancouver, Washington where he was employed for the Kaiser Company building aircraft carriers until moving back to Lake Norden in 1945. They farmed near Lake Norden until their retirement in 1978. He died on Thursday, December 8, 2005 at the Beverly Healthcare in Lake Norden at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 12 days. He was a member of the Baptist Church and also served as chairperson for the church for many years. He was also curator of the Lake Norden Museum and served on the museum board for 38 years. Verner enjoyed woodworking, driving antique tractors, attending thrashing bees, traveling and especially spending time with family and friends. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Helen of Lake Norden; one son, Kenneth Koistinen and his wife Joyce of Pierre, SD; one daughter-in-law, Charlotte Nielsen and her husband Craig of Lake Norden; five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, Kevin Koistinen and his wife Marty of Watertown and their family Brendan and Alyssa, Karen Gordon and her husband Allen of Brookings and their family Katelynn, Carter and Allison, Kim Nelson and her husband Dale of Sioux Falls and their family Alex and McKenna, Kelly Koistinen and his wife Betsy of Spearfish and their family Mikayla and Kody, Kristi Davis and her husband Matt of St. Peter, MN and their family Colton and Ellen; one brother, Clarence Koistinen and his wife Marie of Lake Norden; two sisters, Elsie Martilla and her husband Marvin and Eldora Juntunen and her husband Erland, all of Lake Norden; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one son Gary, one great granddaughter Sara, his parents and nine brothers.
