Vivian F. Greenfield, 93, passed away on her birthday Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center. The family plans to hold a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, at 11:00 am in the First Presbyterian Church in Castlewood. Visitation will be held prior from 10:00 - 11:00. Burial at the Castlewood Cemetery will follow the service, and lunch will be served after burial. Vivian F. Greenfield was born on January 1, 1932, in Clear Lake, SD, the daughter of John and Zennie (Ruesink) Wellhouse. She was baptized in the Bemis Holland Presbyterian Church. Vivian received her education in Clear Lake, SD where she attended Clear Lake High School. She was united in marriage to Robert Greenfield on September 16, 1953, in Castlewood, SD. After their marriage, they farmed on her parents farm in Deuel County a few years then moved to a farm near Castlewood and farmed together until their retirement in 1993. Vivian and Robert then moved to Watertown, SD, where she did house cleaning for several families.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Castlewood, the Presbyterian Women, the American Legion Auxiliary in Castlewood, the Rising Star Red Hats Society and Widows Support Group of Watertown. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing and traveling with Robert. She especially enjoyed their many bus trips together.
Vivian is survived by her three children; Lonnie (Judy) Greenfield of Watertown, SD, Pamela (Bill) Tanner of Castlewood, SD and Patty (Bruce) Whitaker of Seffner, Florida; her sister Geraldine Gantvoort of Castlewood; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Greenfield; parents, John and Zennie (Ruesink) Wellhouse; siblings, Henry, Johanna and Christine and her daughter-in-law, Molly Greenfield.
