George W. Wally Koistinen Lake Norden, South Dakota Graveside rites will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 28, 2005 at the Olivet Cemetery, Lake Norden, South Dakota. George Walfred Wally Koistinen, son of Charles and Ida (Tervo) Koistinen, was born January 1, 1911 near Bryant, South Dakota. He received his education in the Cleveland and Garfield township schools and later served in the CCC camps in the Black Hills in 1933 and 1934. Wally moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1937 and worked several jobs. He won several awards for giving suggestions for improvements in shipping while working at Vought Aircraft Company. Following his marriage to Lorraine Moen on February 17, 1940 at Angola, Indiana, he served in the U.S. Army from August of 1943 to January of 1946. He served in the European Theatre of Operations. Following his discharge, they made their home in East Detroit, Michigan until 1973 when they retired to Lake Norden. He entered the Beverly Healthcare in Lake Norden on May 16, 2005 and died there on Monday, May 23, 2005 at the age of 94 years, 4 months and 22 days. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden. Wally was also active in the Eagles and the V.F.W. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Lorraine of 65 years; two brothers, Verner Koistinen and his wife Helen and Clarence Koistinen and his wife Marie; two sisters, Elsie Martilla and her husband Marvin and Eldora Juntunen and her husband Erland, all of Lake Norden; three sisters-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends. Wally was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers.
